Funny enough, this post has sat in my drafts for over 6 years. Intended to be finished, at some time, somewhere… but as usual I find myself with a wretched lack of time – despite becoming bored from time to time in this new season that 2020 brought. So without much further thought, I willContinue reading “Italy: the land of pizza and… pastries.”

Jellyfish!
Guys, I wish I had more time to write and I just dont. I just paid for the renewed hosting of this site at about $160CAD, it kind of hurt to pay… for a hobby I have only sporadically entertained in the last few years. Sigh. I’m in Australia at the moment exploring the sunnyContinue reading “Jellyfish!”
Wednesday: Jerusalem
These are the streets of the old city of Jerusalem before the vendors set up and everyone wakes up. I was able to visit with Tom for a day last October, I can’t wait to return!
Wednesday – Fishing boats at Lauwersoog
My grandfather really used to love coming here, my grandmother did too. It’s a marina and shipyard and also swimming hole in the province I’m from, Groningen, the Netherlands. It faces the Wadden Sea. We visited again recently last October and it was a beautiful evening.
Wednesday: Neuschwanstein Castle – so beautiful!
I visited this castle for the second time in my life back in October, 2018 and it was amazing! You can learn more about this castle, that inspired the Disney version! over here.

On Sunday October 15th we managed to book our now wrapped up mini-RTW. (Posts are on a delay because I did not want to advertise the whole “hey, we aren’t home for over a month, come rob us!). Our scheduled departure date was November 7th and we returned on December 13th! December 14th. We paidContinue reading “The booking of a ROUND THE WORLD TRIP – we did it!”
How I learned to backpack
If you follow me on instagram you know that something I’m just as enthusiastic about as personal finance is travel, more precisely travel hacking and seeing the world pretty cheaply. I’ve pretty much gone full on backpacker, minus the greasy hair and skipping showers and also minus the hostel vibe because we usually avoid hostels.Continue reading “How I learned to backpack”
The planning of a MINI-RTW, continued travel hacking.
I figure I should start detailing a bit more about the adventures I go on and how we do it all on the cheap. (the “we” in this equation is my hopefully -probably forever partner-in-crime and newly nicknamed Tom, because he is as persistent as Tom from Tom & Jerry when he sets his mindContinue reading “The planning of a MINI-RTW, continued travel hacking.”
On the road again; sampling some poutine in Montréal
I flew out of YYG, Charlottetown, early this morning on-route to NYC for a long weekend of much deserved chilling. Our reward itinerary, booked on Aeroplan included a day long stopover in Montreal which was awesome! One of the things on my to do list was to grab a poutine and poutine we did! ThereContinue reading “On the road again; sampling some poutine in Montréal”
So I got a raise yesterday!
Not a lot, but every nickel counts around here. I built one of my company contracts to increase every 6 months vs yearly. (compounding the effect a little 😉 ) So every 6 months everyone gets a small raise, and so do I, as an employee of the company that I co-own I get aContinue reading “So I got a raise yesterday!”
